Coach Toledo’s Bio

 

Born in Portugal and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, Manny began his soccer career playing the game barefooted in the streets and beaches of Rio de Janeiro and later played Futsal with Mackenzie Sports Club.  After arriving in California in 1972, he played with three different professional clubs with Tulare Angrense AC, Artesia DES and Chino DES From 1975 to 1990 he played in the Pacific Soccer League, (PSL), and the San Bernardino Soccer League.

 

For several years, he coached teams at Brea HS, El Dorado HS, Servite HS as well as Cerritos College, alma mater of Marcelo Balboa, former captain of the United States World cup team. 

 

During his tenure at Brea Olinda HS from 1981 to 1991, his varsity teams won seven Orange league championships, won CIF, California Interscholastic Federation, in 1986 and runner up in 1987. 

 

Since 1985, Manny coached several teams in CSL.   Currently he is a staff coach with SC Bayern of Huntington Beach.  www.csbayern.com

 

From 1989 to 1999 he served as the California Youth Soccer Association boys U14 State team Head coach with the US Olympic Development Program.  During his tenure with CYSA-s he helped identify players such as Frank Heydjuk, (USMNT) John O'Brien (USMNT) among others made it to the professional level.

 

As a founder and director of his own soccer camp, this summer will mark the 21st year of Manny Toledo’s Orange County soccer camp, which more than 5,000 youngsters have participated since 1987. 

 

Coach Toledo holds a National Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation. 

In addition, Manny has traveled internationally and participated in advanced soccer coaching courses in the US, Brasil, Mexico, Portugal and most recently, during the summer of 2007 he was a guest coach of World Class Club Atletico River Plate in Buenos Aires Argentina, where he had an opportunity to observe the infrastructure of their youth developmental system, under the technical direction of Gabriel Rodrigues, as well as the training sessions of the 1st. division professional team, under the head coaching of Daniel Alberto Passarela, former Captain of the 1978 Argentina's World Cup Championship Team.

In April of 2008 Manny will travel to Mexico City where he will be a guest coach of Pumas UNAM, one of the top professional clubs in Mexico and the best Developmental Academy in the country, having produced World Class Players such as Hugo Sanchez, currently the Head Coach of the men's Mexican National Team, Jorge Campos, the legendary goalkeeper and Leonardo Cuellar, currently the women's National team Head Coach.
 

Known as top clinician and coach, he is well received by players, coaches and parents because of his demanding, positive, passionate teaching and coaching approach. 

 

Manny is a staff member at Brea Olinda Unified School District and works in the physical education and athletic departments at Brea Olinda High School.  Manny’s also fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
